Galaxy S cannot connect to Kies

Hi Vfe,
I've used Kies in the past few weeks to manage backups and update contacts on my Galaxy S but when I tried it today the screen just keeps flashing between the desktop and the MTP application. I've tried a few things I've seen in other fora such as the GalaxyS support forum (www.samsunggalaxysforum.com) but still no joy. Has anyone else seen this before and were you able to get it working again, short of doing a hard-reset?

Also, I haven't been able to get my PIN for accessing my account details. Could someone please have a look at whatever is causing this error because it has been like this for a few weeks now:

This problem is due to a BUG in the Galaxy S when files have an extension bigger than 16 characters.

1. Set the USB connection as MASS STORAGE, (Settings -> About Phone -> USB Settings)
2. Connect to the PC - PC Should recognize as External disk
3. Mount the USB disk in the phone,
4. Access the new "disk" in your Computer and search for files containing with long extensions (filename.bigbigbigextension) and delete them.
5. Unmount and disconnect
6. Set USB connection as KIES connection and connect the cable again - That should fix your problem
