Samsung Galaxy S GT-19000 Firmware 2.3.3 Gingerbread

I managed after 6 hours yesterday to upgrade to this firmware via the Kies software on my computer.
However, now I am unable in any program on the phone to write in Ukrainian or Russian texts, both of which I used frequently.
Firmware version 2.3.3
Gingerbread
Any helpful advice to solve the problem would be very much appreciated.
Alastair.

Hi Alastair

You should be able to get both of those languages through one of the language packs available on the android market.
The two most popular (and both compatible with 2.3.3) are Customer Locale and MoreLocale 2.

Thanks

Re:Samsung Galaxy S GT-19000 Firmware 2.3.3 Gingerbread

Wayne,

There doesn't seem to be any instructions with either of these programs as to what they do, and they don't appear to do what I need (i.e. to type, write in Russian / Ukrainian on the phone for messages, emails etc.) They seem to be just ways of getting the phone to display its menus in other languages (which I am already able to do anyway).

In fact, having tried both of them, all they did was change the menu language of the phone. There is still no cyrrilic keyboard for either language.

Surely there is a better way to solve this problem??? Is there a way of going back to the software which did give me the language options which I especially sought when buying the phone? Or can I progress to 2.3.4?? I understand from a friend that their phone works fine with Russian language typing in 2.3.4.

Please advise

A.

Hi Alastair

Samsung might be able to assist with rolling back or upgrading the firmware versions for you.

I tested a few Android Apps on my phone and found that AnySoftKeyboard application allowed me to install plug in's for Russian Keyboards.
Once you have AnySoftKeyboard downloaded just look for "related programs" you should see the Russian plug in there.

Thanks

Re:Samsung Galaxy S GT-19000 Firmware 2.3.3 Gingerbread

Thanks Wayne,

I will try as you suggest. But I am not too optimistic. I did manage to download two Russian keyboard packages, but neither of them appeared to talk with my phone so were unusable.

I will let you know if I have success. The sooner the next version of the firmware is released, the better hopefully.

Can Vodafone reinstall the required software if required?

Thanks for your reply.

Re:Samsung Galaxy S GT-19000 Firmware 2.3.3 Gingerbread

Many thanks Wayne.

It isn't as convenient as it was before with earlier Firmware, but at least now it works and I can use it. I hope it won't rob all my credit card details etc!!!

I hope next firmware version will resolve the problem permanently.

Thanks again,

A.
