Re: Scam text from 'New message'?

Vodafone cannot help as these are third party companies. Please contact the regulator of premium rate services who can provide advice and can act if companies are not compliant with the rules:

Hi,

I received today a message:

"Free MSG: you received (1) new photo-message:

link: shortyz.co"

Number: +xxxxxxx

I haven't clicked on anything, but it worries me, how they can send messages to anyone.

Can this be blocked?

Just ignore it and please dont post numbers on the forum as people may decide to text them.

Re: Scam text from 'New message'?

Hi there,

Unfortunately we are unable to block any numbers from contacting you by text, If you are in doubt or feel concerned a text you have received is suspicious I would recommend you delete it from your mobile phone.

Thanks,

Hi I just received a text picture message & unfortunately I opened it. I believe it's some sort of a scam. I'm on PAYG bundle Talk Extra €20. So how do they get money from you when you don't have money in your account ? I deleted message immediately after I opened it.

Hi, I received a picture text message last night & unfortunately I opened it. I'm sure it's a scam. I'm on PAYG Talk Extra bundle €20 a month. How do they take money from you when you have zero balance. I deleted message immediately after opening it.

There should be a way to reply to every text message. Surely it's not rocket science for the mobile carriers to allow this. Even the ridiculous messages from Vodafone that you need to respond to but yet they don't allow it!

Re: Scam text from 'New message'?

Typically with PRS messages (Premium rate services) you can reply with the word
stop
to stop the messages. They are governed by comreg and you can search for who the company texting you is by visiting their website and searching for the number.

www.phonesmart.ie

If these are foreign spam messages my advice would be to ignore and delete them

It's stuff like this I'm talking about:
It's RBS 6 Nations season and #FantasticFridays has 100 Irish Pro rugby jerseys and Jamie Heaslip powerbanks to give away. To be in with a chance to win, simply go to your My Vodafone App http://bit.ly/2kx8h0Z and enter in the offers section before midnight Sunday, 12 February. #FantasticFridays T&Cs vodafone.ie/terms Opt out call 1800200234.

And stuff telling you your bill is overdue when your after paying!

Then why not call the number and opt out?

Re: Scam text from 'New message'?

They probably do this to make it a little more challenging to opt out. Only the committed shall succeed.

There is no number to opt out. The text message says new picture message from NWMedia2144. When you open it, it shows a supermarket with a questionnaire. At this stage I deleted the message.

Re: Scam text from 'New message'?

Hi there,

This sounds a lot like a phishing message, if in doubt, I would suggest deleting this text message immediately from your handset.

Thanks,

Ashling

Hi Aisling,

Thanks for the reply. I have deleted the text with picture message. Just hope that's the end of it. A bit anxious that they'll start taking money from me. Will have to keep an eye on things & be more careful in future.

Re: Scam text from 'New message'?

Todya I received a message with no number and am unable to forward/reply/etc.

Sender/Content of message:

======

NWMedia2053

You received(1) new photo-message: http://.......

======

NB: I've deliberately not entered the url above - but it is something to do with vouchers.

How do I know that none of my credit has gone to the sender of the message?

- I'm on the PAYG plan and cannot see the recent transaction activity.
