iMessage activation

I am a vodafone prepay customer with a ported number.

I cannot activate iMessage.

So far I've tried: turning it off and on again, rebooting, resetting network settings, reintalling iOS to no avail. Keep getting the error 'Activation unsuccessful. Try again.'

Is this your first time using iMessage ? if the answer is no...

Did you deregister / unassign iMessage when it was on the previous network prior to porting your number?

If not - you should first try deregistering your number from iMessage.   Go to here

https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage

Select Ireland and Enter your number.   Then when you get a text message verification purpose from apple, enter it and your number will be deregistered.

You can then try turning on iMessage / activating it once more.

All the best

MRU

Re: iMessage activation

I tried this and successfully deregistered my *other* mobile numbers, however my vodafone number does not receive the deregister code text.

I have received text messages in the past so I know that my phone is able to receive texts.

Re: iMessage activation

I assume you can recieve telephone calls ?  That the number has been fully ported ?

A moderator will have a look at this for you on Monday - it is strange indeed.

I'll flag it for you.

Re: iMessage activation

Hi there,
It appears everything you need to use the network is set up correctly - your next port of call would likely be Apple customer care, so they can assist.

Thanks,

Re: iMessage activation

I left my iMessage OFF for about 24 hours and turned it on again, activated with no problems!

Re: iMessage activation

I'm on Chat Extra. I had to restart my phone yesterday, I had iMessage turned on before I turned it off. When I turned the phone back on, I had to turn on iMessage again. I've noticed I've been charged for turning on iMessage. This never happened before. When I queried the charge I was told it was correct. So I presume this means every time I reset all settings I will be charged for turning on iMessage. Can anyone confirm this ?

Re: iMessage activation

Hi there,

As the activation request for iMessage is sent by SMS in the background by your iPhone to Apple's servers in the UK, a charge of €.0.15 will apply (activation costs the same as an international text to the UK).

Thanks,

Ashling

This is a new charge so, as I never paid 15c before to activate iMessage. There should be a message to tell you there is a-charge to activate this service.
